Welcome to the West Coast! Whether you’re joining us from across the province or across the ocean, Vancouver offers a stunning mix of glass-tower urbanism and raw Pacific nature.
As you plan your trip to Robson Square, here is everything you need to know to make the most of your stay in the heart of the city.
Your Home Base: Robson Square & Downtown
Forget “resort bubbles”—WordCamp is happening at the literal and cultural crossroads of the city. Designed by legendary architect Arthur Erickson, Robson Square is a sprawling, multi-level civic oasis.
- The Vibe: A bustling campus feel where law courts, UBC students, and street performers collide.
- The “Hallway Track”: The venue’s iconic concrete steps and hidden garden nooks are perfect for impromptu WordPress chats.
- The Location: You are at the junction of Robson and Howe Streets, directly across from the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Must-See Spots (Within Walking Distance)
If you have an hour between sessions or a free evening, these local staples are just steps away:
- Robson Street: Vancouver’s premier strolling district. Walk northwest toward Jervis Street to find a mix of high-end fashion, local boutiques, and enough ramen shops to power a small army.
- The Vancouver Art Gallery: Right next door! Even if you don’t go inside for the world-class exhibitions, the north plaza is the city’s favorite “people-watching” spot.
- Vancouver Public Library (Central Branch): A few blocks east, this Coliseum-inspired building features a stunning glass-walled reading gallery and a public rooftop garden.
- Stanley Park Seawall: A brisk 15-20 minute walk (or a 5-minute bike ride) takes you to the entrance of this 1,000-acre park. Pro tip: Visit the Totem Poles at Brockton Point for a dose of local history.
Fueling Up: Food & Drink
Vancouver’s food scene is a “choose your own adventure” of international flavors. Around Robson Square, you aren’t stuck with tourist traps—you’re eating where the locals eat.
Quick Bites & Casual (Perfect for a 1-hour lunch)
- Viet Sub (520 Robson St): A local legend for affordable, fast, and delicious Banh Mi sandwiches. Expect a line, but it moves quickly!
- Japadog (530 Robson St): A Vancouver staple. It’s a Japanese-style hot dog stand (and storefront) featuring toppings like seaweed, teriyaki sauce, and kurobuta pork.
- Hello Nori (1165 Robson St): Specializes in premium hand rolls served at a sleek counter. Great if you want high-quality sushi but are dining solo or in a pair.
- Hungry Guys Kitchen (988 Granville St): Fresh, customizable bowls and burritos—very popular with the local tech and student crowd.
- Triple O’s (718 Robson St): The “quick-service” version of BC’s famous White Spot. Get a legendary burger with their secret “Triple O” sauce.
The “Ramen District” (Robson & Denman)
- Ramen Danbo (1333 Robson St): Widely considered some of the best Tonkotsu ramen in the city. You can customize everything from noodle thickness to broth richness.
- Jinya Ramen Bar (541 Robson St): Located right across from the Library, it’s a high-energy spot with a massive menu that includes great vegan options.
- Marutama Ramen (780 Bidwell St): Famous for their creamy chicken-based (Tori Paitan) broth instead of the traditional pork.
Coffee & Sweet Treats
- Breka Bakery & Café (818 Bute St): A Vancouver lifesaver—open 24/7. Huge selection of sandwiches, donuts, and cakes with plenty of seating.
- Little Café on Robson (1258 Robson St): Famous for their “Supreme” circular croissants and aesthetic lattes. Great for a mid-afternoon sugar hit.
- PAUL Bakery (1164 Robson St): High-end French pastries and excellent espresso right in the heart of the shopping district.
- Uncle Tetsu (1151 Robson St): If you see a line for “Jiggling” Japanese Cheesecake, this is the place.
Group Dinners & Post-Event Drinks
- Cactus Club Cafe (Burrard & Robson): A quintessentially “Vancouver” experience. Vibrant atmosphere, great cocktails, and a menu that ranges from sushi to steaks.
- Social Corner (634 W Georgia St): A Michelin-recommended spot perfect for groups, featuring wood-fired pizzas, Spanish-inspired tapas, and a great happy hour.
- Earls Kitchen + Bar (1137 Robson St): A spacious, reliable choice for a “Team Dinner” with a massive heated patio.
Logistics & Staying Over
Staying near the venue makes logistics a breeze. Because we are in the downtown core, you are likely within a 10-minute walk of your hotel.
- Transit: The SkyTrain (our rapid transit system) connects the airport (YVR) directly to downtown in about 25 minutes. Get off at Vancouver City Centre or Burrard Station—both are very close to Robson Square.
- Accommodations: From the historic grandeur of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver to sleek, modern boutiques and budget-friendly hubs, there is a bed for every budget within a three-block radius.
- Walkability: 10/10. Once you arrive downtown, you can easily navigate the entire WordCamp weekend entirely on foot.
Places to Stay
Hotels
We are currently working on putting together a list of hotels and finding deals to help make WordCamp Canada 2026 more affordable for all. Stay tuned for more information.
In the meantime, if you are looking to book early, we recommend staying near Robson Square or along the Skytrain lines (Canada Line or Expo Line) for the easiest access to the venue.
Pro Traveller Tip: Pack layers! Vancouver weather is famous for its “liquid sunshine.” A light waterproof shell will be your best friend while exploring the seawall between sessions.
