WordPress Accessibility Day 2026 kicks off Wednesday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern (8:00 a.m. Pacific) and runs for 24 hours straight. It’s free, it’s fully online, and it’s open to anyone who builds, designs, writes for, or runs a WordPress site.
A free, 24-hour conference on WordPress and accessibility
WordPress Accessibility Day is a global livestream of talks about building WordPress sites that work for everyone. Sessions run back to back from 15:00 UTC on October 7 through October 8, so wherever you are in Canada, there’s something on during your waking hours.
The event is a nonprofit, organized by volunteers from the WordPress Accessibility Team and the wider community. Its mission is to demystify accessibility for the people who actually build and run WordPress sites: developers, designers, content creators, and site owners.
It also practises what it preaches. Every session is streamed on Zoom with live CART captions and sign language interpretation.
Why we’re spreading the word
Accessibility has been a recurring theme within WCEH, and for good reason. Last year, organizer Dan Knauss argued in Accessibility as a Value, Not an Add-on that accessibility is the baseline for good work, not a last-minute checkbox before launch.
His point was simple: when we design for everyone, the results get better for everyone. Navigation gets clearer, content gets easier to understand, and people trust what we build.
He also made the case that Canada is well placed to lead here. Accessibility is part of our law, and our WordPress community is full of people who care about getting it right. WordPress Accessibility Day is one of the best places to keep building those skills, together with the global community.
Something for every kind of WordPresser
You don’t need to be an accessibility specialist to get a lot out of the day. Two more posts from our blog show why.
If you run a small business, Cathy Mitchell’s Does Your Tiny Business Really Need to Worry about Accessibility? is a good place to start. She points out that every one of us will face a disability at some point, even a temporary one. Her golden rule: don’t rely on automated scans or quick-fix plugins. Real accessibility comes from understanding how real people use your site. This year’s schedule includes a talk that takes a hard look at AI-powered and “one-click” accessibility tools, so it’s a natural follow-up.
If you manage many sites or many editors, Troy Chaplin’s Designing for Everyone: Sustaining Accessibility in Higher Ed describes what it takes to keep hundreds of university sites accessible as people and tools change. His answer rests on three pillars: design, development, and content. Overlook one and the whole effort wobbles.
WordPress Accessibility Day covers all three. Developers will find sessions like one on adding automated WCAG checks to a plugin’s CI/CD pipeline. Designers, content editors, and site owners will find plenty too. Check the full schedule to find the sessions that fit your role.
How to take part
- Register for free at wpaccessibility.day/2026/register. Zoom will email you a personal join link, and registered attendees get virtual swag and a chance at sponsor prizes.
- Browse the schedule and add the sessions you want to your calendar. Times are listed in UTC, so subtract four hours for Eastern time (seven for Pacific).
- Watch with your team. Book a meeting room, put a session on the big screen, and talk about what you’d change on your own sites.
- Spread the word with #WPA11yDay and #WPAD2026, and tag WordCamp Canada so we can share it too.
- Support the event. It runs on volunteers and sponsors, whose funding pays for captions and sign language interpretation. You can donate to help.
See you on October 7
Accessibility isn’t a box we tick once. It’s a habit we build, one talk, one fix, and one conversation at a time. WordPress Accessibility Day gives you 24 hours of free, expert-led learning to build that habit, without leaving your desk.
Register now, tell a colleague, and let’s show the world what Canada’s WordPress community can do when we build for everyone.
